How to care for your skin after Botox®
What to Expect after Botox® Cosmetic
Botox is an outpatient procedure. You can get back to your usual activities immediately after, but to achieve optimal results, please follow these best practices for care after your Botox injections.
If you’re not sure what you can or can’t do after getting Botox, talk to our skin care estheticians who are highly trained, certified and / or registered nurses. We can provide specific tips based on your treatments and what fits best with your daily routine.
Top Things to Remember
Wait about 24 hours to exercise
Go makeup-free for 24 hours (or if you do apply, try not to rub the area to avoid dispersing the Botox® toxins)
Avoid lying down for 4-6 hours (this helps keep the toxins in place and may avoid bruising)
To give the product time to settle, try not to touch the treated areas for a day or two.
Avoid the sun (and other heat sources like long hot showers and tanning beds) for 24 to 48 hours.
When to Seek Medical Attention
After Botox, normal side effects can include redness, tenderness, swelling, and bruising. Most side effects usually subside in a day, and bruising will disappear in 2 weeks. You can apply a pack of ice for relief and the bruising should go away in about 2 weeks.
Serious side effects are rare, but if you notice any of the following, get medical help right away:
trouble swallowing
difficulty speaking
muscle weakness
poor bladder control
vision changes
difficulty breathing
